FACE GUTS is pleased to announce its first solo exhibition with American born, Los Angeles-based artist Liz Walsh.
Primarily known for her dream evoking surrealist landscapes which drip with entropic overgrown gardens, Walsh is conducting a takeover of Face Guts, a project space and gallery by Tim Biskup. Walsh presents her first large-scale paintings and new series of sculptures that hope to transmute the raw plywood project space and window box into an exaggerated painted jungle filled with fauna, mythic animals and anthropocene objects sure to both entice and repel the viewer.
Midnight Lamp, taken from the Jimi Hendrix song, is the obsessive viewing of sleep as the subconscious world of dreams, magic, and fire. The Sun never stops burning even when we sleep.

plants and skulls
unstoppable growth
still rock and bone
sun beating down
all night burning.
Walsh works in a variety of materials including clay, video, and painting. She received an MFA in Painting from CCAC in San Francisco, CA, BFA in Painting from the University of Colorado at Boulder. She has attended the Headlands Center of the Arts residency as well as a residency at Cooper Union in NYC.
”Walsh brings the materiality and intricacy of previous work with clay and weaving into themes of emotionality, excess, and transformation through large-scale botanical landscapes laced with pop symbols. The subjective reality of underrecognized Surrealist artist Leonora Carrington also inspires her, in what Cecilia Alemani describes as “a magical world where life is constantly re- envisioned through the prism of the imagination.”-Writings by Steph Kretowicz
Liz Walsh’s work has been featured in numerous exhibitions including Supermoon at Last Projects (2021), Portals at Praz-Delavallade (2023), and A Seed Imagines a Flower at Eleanor Harwood Gallery (2024). Walsh lives and works in Los Angeles.
